A routine sludge barge excursion is cut short when a mysterious missile critically damages VectorMan’s ship. Vectorman escapes destruction and freefalls back to earth, landing on the outskirts of a seemingly abandoned research facility.

Ristar is a platform game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis in 1995. A Sega Game Gear game, of the same name and genre, Ristar, was also released, which shared similar themes while possessing different level design and gameplay mechanics. The game stars an anthropomorphic cartoon star who uses his hands and long, stretchable arms to both move and combat enemies. Reception for the game has been generally positive, but the game's initial release was overshadowed due to the imminent ending of the Genesis's lifecycle and the succession of the Sega Saturn and other fifth generation video game consoles. The premise of the game is that the main character, Casey, can use masks to change into different characters in order to use different abilities. It was later released in Japan as Chameleon Kid. The game is also a part of the Sega Genesis Collection for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. It was released for the Virtual Console in Japan on May 22, 2007; North America on May 28, 2007; and Europe on June 1, 2007. It was also released in addition to a series of other Sega games, including Shining Force and Comix Zone, in Sega Smash Pack 2. The game has also appeared in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Psycho Dream is a side-scrolling action platform game developed by Riot, a division of Telenet Japan, for the Super Famicom. Set in a virtual-reality medium called D-Movie, the story follows two agents, Ryō Shijima and Maria Tobari, who enter a dream world to rescue a girl trapped there. Players can choose between Ryō, who fights with a sword, and Maria, who uses ranged and transformation-based attacks. The game is structured around short action stages with enemies, hazards, and boss encounters, combining science fiction and horror imagery. It was released in Japan in 1992, while a planned North American release under the title Dream Probe was not completed.
