The Sword of Hope

The Sword of Hope II is a role-playing game. Take on the role of young Prince Theo of Riccar and embark on a mission to find the truth behind a mystery that is threatening the kingdom. The key to solving the numerous puzzles and gimmicks is the use of commands like "look," "open" and "hit." You'll encounter many places and items during the adventure, plus some friends waiting to lend a hand along the way.

The player assumes the role of Prince Theo whose father, King Hennessy has become corrupt and maniacal with power. He has enslaved the kingdom and exiled the great wisemen who once maintained the balance and prosperity of the kingdom. Theo's mother, Queen Remy, was killed by Hennessy but Theo was rescued from the castle without harm with the help of an old sage. Now that Theo has reached his teenage years and become a skilled warrior it is time for Theo to face his destiny and return to the castle where he was raised and defeat his father.

Tales of Rebirth is set in a world where humans (called Huma) and beast people (Gajuma) coexist in relative peace. An unspecified time before the events of the game, Geyorkias, the ruler of a spirit race called the Sacred Beasts, sought to destroy the Huma as their dark emotions were fueling a primordial destructive force known as Yuris: the other Sacred Beasts put a stop to Geyorkias' plan by sealing him away, then acting to nullify Yuris' threat. The story opens with the death of Karegia's king, Ladras Lindblum, poisoned by the royal adviser Zilva Madigan: during his final moments, he releases his power into the world, causing many humans to become possessed by Force, including Veigue, Annie and Tytree. As the king has failed to name a successor, Karegia enters an interregnum at his death.
