Inside certain portals, the physical properties of the character or world elements can change, offering new gameplay possibilities. Unbound’s artistic approach can be summarized as a dark fairy tale presented in a cartoonish style, with the purpose to give the game experience a fresh look and feel. The player explores a large manor house in search of a missing daughter, interacting with almost every object and following hints delivered through an in-game mobile phone. A demonic witch can appear without warning at any point, keeping the player under constant threat. Light combat and item elements are included, such as using an axe on doors and combining objects into makeshift tools. It shares its name with, and is loosely based on, the film of the same title.
