Champion Jockey: Special

Champion Jockey: Special is a horse racing simulator in which the player becomes a jockey and leads the racehorse to victory. Aim to be the world's No. 1 jockey by making full use of various actions! Special also features connectivity with the Nintendo Switch version of Winning Post 8, a contemporary installment of another horse racing series developed by Koei and mostly exclusive to Japan, allowing steeds and riders created in one game to appear in the other.
The main feature of the game. Like other racing games, the player starts as a jockey just making their debut and can aim to become the world champion. Players can tame and raise various Japanese or European horses. Original race tracks and other simulation features are within this mode. Players can make this mode as long or as short as they desire to raise several horses or challenge rival jockeys. Another aspect during races within this mode are "Quest Challenges". These challenges are based on "what-if?" scenarios for historic races or horses. For example, players may choose to become an undefeated champion for Deep Impact's Triple Crown winning spree. When these challenges are cleared, players can obtain new unique race horses for their characters. Players can increase the benefits gained during their practice sessions by fulfilling "Practice Challenges". Different bonus points can be gained based on the player's performance.

"Champion Jockey: G1 Jockey & Gallop Racer" is the newest horse racing simulation title from Koei-Tecmo. While not the first title to do so, the game combines creative input from the Tecmo and Koei development teams. The producer notes that the development team wants to present a "refreshing and real" game. Therefore, members of the team traveled globally to visit horse racing tracks in Europe. Japan's Nakayama Race Track, for instance, will be recreated as close as possible in the game. As the title suggests, players can enjoy traits found in either racing series. Gallop Racer stands as the Tecmo side while G1 Jockey forms the Koei side. Curiously, the naming for the intellectual properties are switched for the Japanese version, the title instead being "Champion Jockey: Gallop Racer & GI Jockey".

Formation lap is almost over, as you push gently on the throttle and brutally steer one last time from left to right, trying to maintain a high temperature on your wheels. You know it's the key to get through the first corner as fast as you can. Probably it will allow you to make a good start and overtake the two cars in front of you. They already reached their starting spots. It's time to lift up gas pedal and focus on that yellow line on your grid spot. While gently applying pressure on the brake pedal, you try to gain every millimeter the regulation permits, and perfectly line up your front wing with the white line defining your starting position. Now you are pushing the paddles on the bottom part of your steering wheel, disengaging the clutch. Shift from 2nd to 1st gear. The car is still. First red light of the traffic light turns on. You did this already, you know how to do it. Your right foot pushes gently gas pedal. Second red light is on, rpm hits the limiter. Third red light is on. The engine now howles loud, while you try to find the right rpms for a perfect start. Four red light is on. The heat distortion waves of the cars in front of you suggest all drivers are ready for the fight. Fifth red light is on. A fast glance to the steering wheel display. Everything is ok. Lights are out...
