Fate/Stay Night is a Japanese visual novel, which was originally released as an adult game. A version of Fate/Stay Night rated for ages 15 and up titled Fate/Stay Night Réalta Nua was released later. Fate/Stay Night's gameplay requires little interaction from the player as most of the game's duration is spent on reading the text that appears, representing either dialogue between the characters or the inner thoughts of the protagonist. Often, players will come to a "decision point" where they are given the chance to choose from options displayed on the screen, typically two to three at a time. There are three main plot lines that the player will have the chance to experience, one for each of the heroines in the story. To view all three plot lines, the player will have to replay the game multiple times and make different choices during the decision points to progress the plot in an alternate direction.

In the capital during the Heian era, there was a onmyouji named Douman who doesn’t fare too well in his studies. However, the talented noblewoman Michinaga told him that everyone is unique and he should be himself. Because of this, he continued to study hard and vowed to protect her. The most powerful onmyouji Senmei told him that he is useless and is just a burden to everyone else in the world, and end up taking Michinaga away from him. He devised a stupid plan to oppose her, but how can the weakest guy like him defeat a genius like her? On top of that, suspected of planning an assassination against Michinaga, he was driven from the city. Now alone except for with Michinaga’s cousin Akimitsu, who is just as dumb as he is, how will he be able to gain revenge against Senmei? This is an SLG using actual figures such as the protagonist Ashiya Douman and Abeno Senmei (although now female). Of course the setting is a bit different being in a girl’s school, and there’s robots and stuff as well. During the ADV parts, you can sneak in as a girl to gain intelligence, or go and equip yourself for the battles during the SLG part. A jankenpon system similar to Koihime is used although onmyouji attacks trump all 3 types (infantry, spearmen and archers). There are light and dark elements which also modify damage, and there are area elements as well.
Abe Kaguya, a girl with a mysterious disease whereby she suffers a lot of pain when she is touched. One day during summer vacation, she is suddenly transported back in time to the Heian era. She ends up in the capital city – a place where the elegant world connects to the land of death. While wondering aimlessly around she encounters a man called Abe Seimei, an exorcist working for the emperor, who tells her that she will return to her world at the next full moon. Kaguya replies that would be fine in a sullen tone, as she doesn’t know if he’s speaking the truth and is dubious that anyone would believe that she’s actually from another time. The boy, who likes to meddle in other people’s affairs, raises an eyebrow at her nihilistic nature and orders that she must change from being a “living corpse” to a “living person” before he sends her back . However, with this change came the start of her sorrows…
Ryouga inherits his late grandfather's Shinto shrine, having nowhere else to go and no relatives left to stay with. There, he accidentally summons and unseals a goddess which nearly eats him alive. Fortunately, he is able to get out of it by offering to cook and buy said goddess Waka-sama all the delicious food that the little money he earns from his part-time job can buy. Brimming with curiousity, Waka-sama ventures out into modern Japan with Ryouga, looking for her sister and discovering new foods, sights, spirits, monsters, and gods all the while.
